This is a character I modeled for Daggerfall Unity, based on one of the flat sprite characters that exists in Daggerfall. Because Daggerfall Unity is so moddable, it's a really cool prospect, the idea of adding in 3D characters. But there are already people working on this, so I ended up not pursuing this too far, but it was good practice, since this is one of the highest quality 3D model characters I've made so far in Blender, to give you an idea of where my current skill level is.
Although for Age of Singularity, I have about 200 of these characters to make. So, whatever level of quality you see here, expect those to be worse. At least for their first drafts. As you can see in the video, you can remove the different pieces, like the thick clay-like hairstyle, which is really nice for low-poly stuff. Although, if I were going to use this model, I would merge these all into one model. It's relatively low-poly, at about 1900 triangles, but that's probably just for half of the model, since I have a mirror modifier on right now.
I try to keep characters under 5000, and if not under 7500, just so that they work well and smoothly in mobile VR settings, which is the most rigorous standard that I can think of to ensure compatibility across devices.
