I'm trying to locate all the rafts in the overworld of Ultima VI. I'm adding them to the database for my Age Of Singularity Ultima VI recreation project. The savegame data will track pre-existing objects' locations in the world, meaning they will never disappear, and the same goes with objects made or placed by the player. No need to use a hack to "fix" the objects to the world and make them permanent since it's not 1990 anymore!
This should allow for some really cool customiztion, as well as lay the groundwork for a randomizer feature later on, something I think should just be in game releases by this point. Incidentally, Ultima VI speedrunner Squibbons is working on a randomizer for Ultima VI SNES, so support her project as well! Ultima 6 SNES Randomizer v0.8d by squibbons .
I think rafts have a lot of potential for the "punch the button and see what happens" factor. the orb of the moons can do something similar, where you embark TO get messed with, lost, and to have to deal with wherever you end up. it's a way of having a wild adventure. I'm really thinking hard about how to amp this up for Age Of Singularity. Water currents for sure, but also, what about... whirlpools that can send you underground? The orb of the moons will also have a "random teleport" ability; you could end up underground or on top of a cold mountain.
These things are great for adding a spicy challenge. I should also have some kind of mechanic that can do this to your mechanics - like taking all of a certain item from your inventory, putting it in a chest across the world, and preventing you from using that item type until you retrieve it (Gremlin challenges!)
Also, here's a ship and skiff deeds list so far:
I found three skiffs underground but no raft. and I could not locate the raft north east of yew, though there are docks on each side of the bay, each with two skiffs. the empath abbey graveyard raft, the two north of cove, I was able to confirm.
