Optimizing a big scene.
I sharpened the Comic Shop Realm. Even in this
low-poly visual state it’s like 90,000
triangles, and it still runs smoothly on my
computer, which is right below Oculus Rift’s
recommended specs. Outside the shop is not
light-map static, saving lots of time baking
light maps and creating a surreal
impressionistic feeling when you look at distant
places due to a lack of shadows and detailed
shading.
If you compare this version with the first
version of this realm, you can see the iterative
process in action. All levels will eventually
receive this kind of makeover. VR triangle
limits might keep the detail on closeup objects
low for awhile, but luckily things being
“unsharp/hazy” is an idea built into the game’s
story. Today I spent like 30 hours on this one.
